Speed of fiber versus copper: Gigabit Ethernet?
The speed between two: 50/125um LC 1000BASE-SX multimode fiber modules of the same two: 1000BASE-T Suppose Cat5e modules: protocol Gigabit Ethernet, fiber length is nominal (less than 100 meters), everything else is the same, the connections between two switches quality. Yes, that is precisely the same. While 1000BASE-T does not use separate cables for transmitting and receiving, still has two channels, one in each direction, each capable of exchanging billion bits of user data per second. (A piece of wire has no problem carrying two signals, one in each direction simultaneously.) While it is theoretically possible to create half-duplex Gigabit Ethernet, nobody really does. :: What is structured wiring?
Modern computer LAN (local area network) cable has the concept of structured cabling.
With high-speed networks of today, people realize that the network system should be split into shorter chunks that allow workstation wiring to be concentrated, with each cable length short enough to support high data rate.
Based on the above reasons, the structured cabling standard has been developed to help define a computer wiring system that stays within the maximum wiring distance for various LAN topologies. For example, the length of wiring horizontal is 100 feet of cable for 100BaseT networks.
:: What can we do to observe the standard of 100 meters of cabling?
To achieve the wiring concentration level, telecommunication rooms (wiring centers) are placed in areas designated in a building. These rooms are interconnected telecommunications then to provide total network connectivity for the building.
This can be explained in a three-story building. In one corner of each floor, a telecommunications room is built, these rooms are connected by telecommunications backbone cabling (cables run vertically through the floors and all rooms telecommunications link together).
On each floor, a telecommunications room focuses all cables from the workstation to that floor. Each station work has a wall jack. The network cable is terminated in Jack and goes directly to the telecommunications room. The cable can be run in cable trays or conduits, or be covered on devices such as a false ceiling. For large plants, more than one telecommunications room may be needed.
:: Horizontal Cabling
The horizontal cables, ranging from workstations on the same floor of the telecommunications room, then ended the cease PUNCHDOWN, or directly into a patch panel. PUNCHDOWN terminations or patch panels can be mounted in rack (19 "or 23" Racks), mounted in the cabinet or wall mounted.

Another advantage of fiber is that fibers can run much longer distance than cable copper, which makes them especially attractive for backbone cabling.
:: The difference between the backbone cabling and horizontal cabling
Since the wiring trunk usually passes through floor to floor, the cables used for backbone cabling requirement is very different from the horizontal cabling.
1. Fire ratings. Backbone cables must have standard specifications imposed fire rating. Typically this is OFNR (Optical fiber nonconductive riser) rated. If the cable backbone through plenary area (spaces in the building used for return air in air conditioning), cable must be OFNP (Fiber Optic House no driver) nominal.
2. Physical restraint. Physics for securing the vertical riser cables is also different from the horizontal cables. Such is the power cable as vertical riser cables need to be strong enough to withstand its own weight.
